WATER QUALITY:

SWIMMING ADVISORY LIFTED

August 23, 2018:
In recent weeks an algal bloom was detected in the lake based on previous
test results for hazardous blue green algae.  Based on water sampled on August 23, 2018,
microcystin was measured at 2.48 ppb (parts per billion), well below the Ohio Department
of Health swimming advisory level at and above 6 ppb.  Therefore, the signs posted on and
around the swimming area have been removed
.  The water will continue to be monitored
through closing of the swimming area.

This recreational public health statement is based on a sample of Silver Lake water tested
on August 23, 2018.  The Ohio Department of Health recommends public advisory for
microcystin levels measuring greater than 6 ppb and less than 20 ppb.   The Ohio Department
of Health recommends an elevated public advisory for microcystin levels measuring 20 ppb
or more. Contact with water should be avoided for levels of microcystin measuring greater
than 20 ppb.  For more information about harmful algal blooms see the Ohio Department of
Health website at: https://www.odh.ohio.gov/odhprograms/eh/HABs/algalblooms.aspx
